And the winners are...
The Friese-Award goes to the Netherlands, the Mo-Award goes to Norway
The 11th Mo&Friese Children's ShortFilmFestival, which takes place in the course of the International ShortFilmFestival Hamburg, has ended the 7th of June with its awards in the zeise cinema. The two winner-films, which were selected by the Mo-Jury and by the Friese-Jury, were shown as well as the winners of the "High Five!-Competition“.
Two prices has been awarded: the Friese-Award for the films of the programmes 4+ and 6+ and the Mo-Award for the films of the programmes 9+ and 12+. Both one are worth 1250 Euro. For the juries it was very hard to decide, because of the huge diversity of 50 shorts from 22 countries.
The Friese-Award has gone to "Rif" by Eric Steegstra (Niederlande 2008). "WOW! Great! We, the Friese-Award jury, selected Eric Steegstra`s movie "Rif" as this years`s award winner, as it is particularly exciting and well designed. We believe this film to be the most elaborate and complex one: it must have been very difficult to create the whole thing from fabric. Everything looks authentic, even the background. The puppets seem so real, you can empathise with the little fish. The music is very emotional and perfectly matches the events in this film. The soundscape makes you believe to be at the sea. We loved the puppets`s movements, especially the movements of the rays. While watching "Rif" you feel the magnificence of the ocean."
The Mo-Award goes to the movie "Varde" by Hanna Larsen (Norway 2008). "This film convinced us by its gripping plot and two strong main characters to empathise with. You can easily feel the emotions in a situation that is very common among today`s youths, although this is presented in a quite extreme way. The film is impressing due to its great tension, a prcise use of light, as well as the spooky music and sounds. For its perfect setting and a happy ending, this year`s Mo-Award goes to the film "Steinhaufen". A wonderful movie!"

High five!
For the third time the festival has awarded prices, for shortfilms arranged by children about the topic "Environmental Protection". A total of 600 € was sponsored by GEOlino with support of Bingo - Die Umwelt Lotterie (lottery to the benefit of the environment) and NUE.
1st place
For Mo and Friese’s ‚Give me 5!’-Competition, both Juries agreed to crown "Die Arktis schmilzt (The Arctic is melting)" by Pia Genz (Germany 2009) as their winning film: "The first award goes to a very inventive and cheerful movie. A fondly designed setting, great sound and the idea to let rats play the parts convinced us to give this prize to "The Arctic is melting".
2nd place
As the second best film of Mo and Friese’s ‚Give me 5!’ competition we have chosen "HOT" by Edvard Granum Dillner from Norway (2009). "`Realising a serious topic in a funny way` - this may have been the producers`notion when they created the film. This short is an easily understandable animation with lovelydesigned plasticine characters. To acknowledge playful ideas such as the `iFreeze`, "HOT" is given our second prize."
3rd place
As the third winner for Mo and Friese’s ‚Give me 5!’ competition we would like to elect "Recycling" by Clemens Fröde and Philipp Will (Germany 2009). "This short convinced us as it is a very well presented, outstanding documentary film. It provides interesting interviews and offers a solution for waste separation in schools."
