German Competition

German Summer

Although the "German Autumn" happened 30 years ago, it's up-to-dateness is not only due to the anniversary. The political implications of the title are also symptomatical for this year's German Competition.

41 fictional, experimental and documentary films explore what was and what that means today. They are about what is happening at the moment, examine working conditions and ways of ilfe, and investigate the relations between generations and humans behaviour in general. It's about everything. It's personal, political and abstract. And the results are good and exciting films.

For the first time ever, we present all German films not in two seperate competitions (formerly Made in Hamburg / Made in Germany), but merge them in the German Competition programme. All films from Hamburg will also be shown during the Hamburg Cultural Foundation's Short Film Night.
